[Documentary] Jupiter’s Dance (2006)

This is a must see documentary featuring Jupiter Bokonji and his group Okwess International but also other very talented artists from Kinshasa working their way through. I actually bought the DVD years back and it came with a music CD of all Okwess’ songs heard in the documentary. Jupiter Bokonji is one of the artists who bring Kasayi culture upfront, in his own way, and I must say his music is super good. I totally agree when he says Congolese people don’t know the well of talent present in Kongo. It’s so true. We’ve have only scratched the surface!!!

(“The last colonials”) – Alors qu’il préparait le tournage d’un film documentaire sur les Blancs vivant au Zaïre, Thierry Michel est arrêté, emprisonné puis expulsé de ce pays. Faute d’un tournage professionnel, il réalise un film avec les images qu’il avait tournées seul. Elles constituent le point de départ d’un carnet de voyage décrivant le portrait de ces blancs, de quelques personnages clés et haut en couleur de la vie expatriée.
