YouTube Videos & Tshala Muana

I must say I’m disappointed they blocked my Tshala Muana video from playing. The only intent was to provide lyrics for a beautiful song. The video was not monetized as I know it’s a content subject to copyright. This said, I’m also really surprised that an artist as popular as Tshala Muana, to this day, still doesn’t have an official website or a YouTube channel. We all know those are the basics for a prominent international artist.

Untitled

I remember I complained about it a few years back and, since, many Congolese artists have, at least, created a YouTube channel and/or an Instagram page. Because she doesn’t have an official page, may channels put her videos online which is not practical for consistency. Moreover, when the videos are shut off for copyright claims, it is almost impossible for her fans to listen to their favorite songs once it’s removed from the platform.

Among our Congolese big artists, most of them do have a YouTube channel. Tshala Muana , for some reason, remains one of the big artists who doesn’t have anything for her fans to follow. What is her manager doing? Is it that they don’t care about the fans? Is it a problem of copyrights? The question remains opened but a website of some sort is LONG overdue!

If you also wish to have an official website/page for Mamu Nationale, please share this post.

Find me on YouTube and Instagram.

[Lyrics Translation] “Cicatrice d’amour” by Tshala Muana

This is a very famous heartbreak song by the one and only Tshala Muana. It is very appreciated by her fans. Enjoy!

Title: Cicatrice d’amour (Love Scar)
Artist: Tshala Muana
Year:1985

Vùluka dilòòlò e
Ndi waka benga
Ngela cyanza ne kukwata
Wewe nyi nyaya kwetu
Bwà kupingana musela baabà 2x

Mêma kusengelela ee
Ooo too ne mundinda,
Kuula cibangu cyà bushùwà,
Kunduupa kulusa munène
Cyanàànà nyà kundiowa. 2x

Cyena kupwa moyo cibangu cyà mukàwu
Cindi ci mushingu cyà menu waka suma ee X4

1985_tm_kami

Vùluka dilòòlò
Rappelle-toi ce soir
Remember that night
Ndi waka benga
Où tu m’as répudié
When you threw me away
Ngela cyanza ne kukwata
J’ai tendu la main pour te retenir
I reached out my hand to grab you
Wewe nyi nyaya kwetu
Toi tu as dit de rentrer chez nous
You told me to go home
Bwà kupingana musela baabà
Que pour je revienne il faudrait que j’épouse ta mère
That for me to come back, I would have to marry your mother

Mêma kusengelela
Moi je t’ai supplié
I begged you
Too ne mundinda
Jusqu’au petit matin
Until the early morning
Kuula cibangu cyà bushùwà
Du plus profond de mon coeur
From the bottom of my heart
Kunduupa kulusa munène
Tu m’as donné une grosse croix à porter
You gave me a big cross to bear
Cyanàànà nyà kundiowa
Je vais me tuer pour rien
I will kill myself for nothing

Cyena kupwa moyo cibangu cyà mukàwu
Je n’oublie pas la cicatrice de la jalousie
I can’t forget the scar of jealousy
Cindi ci mushingu cyà menu waka suma
Dûe à ta morsure
Due to your bite

[Lyrics Translation] “Kànkamana” by Tshala Muana

Here’s a smooth piece by Tshala Muana. In this song, the message is a little more profound than a simple love story. The woman tries to comfort her husband who has a hard time. Basically, she says “don’t give up, soon everything will be better”. The audio is not top quality so there are some words that we couldn’t clearly get and went with the closest meaning possible. As always, don’t hesitate to provide corrections or translation ideas. Hope you’ll enjoy this!

(Kànkamana mwena kwanyì,
Mutu tudie emu kumutwikale,

Real Name: Élizabeth Tshala Muana Muidikayi
Nick Name: Queen of mutuashi
Profession: Singer, songwriter, dancer
Birth Place: May 13, 1958
Place of Birth: Élisabethville (Lubumbashi), Katanga, Congo Belge

Tshala Muana is the most prominent Congolese artist to sing in Ciluba language. She made plethora of recordings. Here’s a non-exhaustive discography. I don’t think it is 100% accurate, especially the release dates, but it will give you as rough idea. So if you happen to have an official record in your hands, please correct me if I’m wrong. In bold letters are the songs in Ciluba. If not indicated otherwise, the default language of the song would be Lingala.

[Lyrics Translation] “Lekela Mwadi” by Tshala Muana

This song is probably my favorite song in this world. It is a mix of salsa and mutwashi, the traditional rhythm of Kasayi, Congo. As I explained in a previous post, this song is a good example of “lisanga” or dedications, ”shout outs”. All along the song, Tshala Muana lists several people’s names. I put those parts between parenthesis…

This transcript is here only thanks to my mum who spent some of her free time on this… If you use this translation, please mention this blog to encourage us translating even more songs… It will be appreciated!^^

N.B.: Apparently this song is known in Latin America as “Kabuya” by Africando. TOTALLY FALSE!!! Give back to the Queen what belongs to the Queen. Africando is a Senegalese salsa band who often invited Congolese artists on their albums such as Papa Wemba, Nyboma or Madilu System but, correct me if I’m wrong, as far as I know, they never invited Tshala Muana and I don’t think they speak Ciluba. However, ‘Lekela Mwadi’ was featured on Putumayo compilation entitled ‘Congo To Cuba’.
