Congo’s electoral commission updates voter list ahead of regional elections

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — Congo’s national electoral commission has updated the country’s electoral list ahead of local and provincial elections later this year, the commission said.
Nearly 200,000 voters who had been omitted from 2011 elections were integrated into the new electoral register of more than 30 million people, said Flavien Misoni, executive secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission, known as CENI. The 18-month operation cost about $30 million dollars, he said.
Commission spokesman Jean Pierre Kalamba said that the operation “was intended to reassure the public about the seriousness of the local and provincial elections” before they take place in October 2015.

D’une manière générale, ceux qui organisent les élections en Afrique ne le font pas dans l’intention de les perdre, mais au contraire c’est pour les remporter haut la main. Aussi ne donnent-ils leur accord en vue du démarrage des activités électorales que lorsque tous leurs préparatifs sont achevés.
Et qui dit “préparatifs” pense à tout l’attirail nécessaire au tripatouillage électoral : un corps électoral monocolore et corrompu, une grande partie de bulletins pré-cochés, la présence des bureaux de vote fictifs, le transport des urnes dans des conditions discutables, l’intimidation policière des électeurs de l’opposition, etc.
En fait, quoique répétés en boucle, leurs beaux discours vantant “l’indépendance” de la Commission électorale autant que l’organisation par eux des “élections libres et transparentes”, sont démentis par leurs actes.

He’s known for his extremely hoarse and cavernous voice and for his defensive abilities on basketball courts. He’s respected among his peers and was even the representant and spokesman of NBA players during the 1998-99 NBA lockout, with Patrick Ewing. He has been recently named Hall of Famer, Class of 2015. L’Afrique donne l’image d’un continent connaissant une marginalisation croissante sur les marchés légaux du commerce mondial; à l’exception de l’exploitation de quelques minerais: bauxite, uranium, or; à l’exception notable du pétrole.
Aujourd’hui, la manne pétrolière nourrit des Etats comme l’Algérie, le Nigeria, l’Angola, le Gabon, le Congo, le Cameroun. Pour d’autres Etats, les lendemains pourraient être prometteurs: le Soudan, le Mali, le Tchad, la République Démocratique du Congo.
